Psychology & Counselling

What is Paediatric Psychology & Counselling?

Paediatric psychology focuses on the mind and behavior of children and adolescents (teenagers) and includes how children grow and develop physically, mentally, emotionally and also socially. Healthy mental development is vital for the long-term health and wellbeing of children and is fundamental for their success and happiness as adults.

Through psychology or counselling, children and families can explore techniques and options for dealing with trauma, managing anxiety or depression, improving behaviour, communication, relationships and social skills and much more.

How Family Agility Can Help

We have an extensive depth of clinical experience in developmental delay / disability management, particularly with regard to paediatric (children's) and young people's neurological conditions, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), psychosocial disabilities, emotional regulation issues and trauma rehabilitation.

Family Agility can work with your child and your family to ensure that any psychosocial, developmental issues or learning disorders are diagnosed and supported effectively in a way that is tailor-made for each child and family. We will work closely with you, your child and your family to provide the best possible therapeutic outcomes in alignment with NDIS capacity building or early childhood intervention goals.

At Family Agility, we can also combine psychology and counselling with Play Therapy, which is a therapeutic approach which stimulates the innate, creative, non-verbal capacities of children. The advantages of child-centred play therapy, is that it gives the child choices regarding how to share any concerns they may have, at a time(s) when they are ready to do so, in a non-confrontational way.

Psychology and Counselling can be beneficial for children with

  • conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), etc.
