Hydrotherapy

At Family Agility we utilise our accredited Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists to deliver hydrotherapy at a hydropool near you. If you are seeking a natural drug-free pain management approach, have joint issues, weight issues, risk of falls, are in a wheelchair, are unable to stand or have difficulty walking, have injuries or reduced range of motion, then hydrotherapy may be an excellent solution for you.

What is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy essentially involves doing specially prescribed exercises in a heated pool to support injury rehabilitation, improved mental health and address the symptoms of chronic disease and degenerative conditions. The water in a hydropool is usually heated to a temperature of 33 – 36ºC, which is warmer than a typical swimming pool.  The focus of the exercises can be adjusted to help your range of movement or strength, reduce pain and inflammation and to deliver many other benefits, depending on your condition or symptoms. What are the Benefits of Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy may help you in a variety of ways:

  • The warm water encourages your muscles to relax, thereby easing swelling and pain in your joints, which helps you to exercise and increase your range of movement. Expert supervision can ensure that this is done safely.

  • The water also supports your weight, which helps to reduce the load on joints while also promoting an overall improved sense of wellbeing.

  • The water can be used to provide resistance while exercising. By pushing your arms and legs against the water, you can also improve your muscle strength.

  • If you are in a wheelchair, have difficulty standing or walking, or are at risk of falls with land exercise, the water provides a safe environment for you to exercise in due to buoyancy.
